Berwick and District Cancer Support Group
We are a volunteer group who provide free transport for people with cancer to their cancer related appointments. We travel to hospitals in Newcastle, Edinburgh and the Borders from Berwick upon Tweed. We regret that we cannot provide transport for any other patient who is not undergoing treatment for cancer, or who lives outside our catchment areas of Berwick, Wooler and Belford.
Remote
Further info
We have a fleet of 6 cars which run 7 days a week to hospitals for cancer treatments. It is run entirely by volunteers with donations from the general public and our supporters through local fundraising.
Who can use this service?
Anyone who has a current cancer diagnosis who is undergoing treatment for the condition.
How are services delivered?
The client contacts the coordinator by phone and an appointment is booked - a driver is given the details of the client and aranges to pick them up at home, take them to the appointment and returns them home. At busy times cars may need to be shared with others, but masks must be worn and the car sanitised between runs.
